DLCM-Backend is the backend part of the DLCM technology, an archiving solution based on the OAIS model (ISO 14721) and compliant with FAIR principles & Open Science requirements for research data.

Mission

The DLCM solution offers a solution to preserve research data by respecting the best practices of archiving (OAIS, BagIt, PREMIS,...) and the requirements of research funding agencies (FAIR principles, DOI, Open Data, Open Science, Data sensitivity). An other key value of the technology is to be researcher-centric. The user experience of the web portal was designed to facilitate the life of the researcher to minimize the time and the effort to upload dataset.

Key Achievements

The main new features of the technology are:
1) Auto-documente file format information in the archive without any effort of the user. This feature addressed by a pre-ingestion workflow.
2) Archive Metadata Update: the user could update/complete/change/fix the metadata of the archive to have a dataset description up-to-date.
3) Data sensitivity: the technology offers the capability to manage dataset with sensitive data. The user interface with the research to characterize/describe the level of data sensitivity with data tag. Then, the solution manages the access to the archive based on the sensitivity with a data usage agreement and a second factor of authentication, if necessary.

Organizational History

- 2015-2018: The first phase was the DLCM project which allows to develop the prototype of the solution
- 2018-2020: The second phase with DLCM 2.0 allows to finalize the development of the solution with the backends (server part) and the user web portal (client part)
- 2019: first implementation of DLCM solution at University of Geneva with Yareta service
- 2021: second implementation of DLCM solution with the SaaS offer OLOS.swiss
- 2024: third implementation at ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles)
