Informal scholarly communications
Peer review system
AuthentiSci is a researcher-led platform that enables scientists to evaluate how scientific findings are represented in public media. Using ORCID-authenticated accounts, researchers provide structured, short-form reviews assessing the accuracy, balance, and clarity of news coverage related to published research. The platform aggregates these expert evaluations into a transparent, publicly accessible resource, helping to identify misrepresentation, highlight uncertainty, and improve the quality of science communication. By creating a feedback layer between researchers and media, AuthentiSci supports research integrity, enhances public understanding of evidence, and generates reusable data on patterns of scientific communication. It complements existing scholarly infrastructure by extending evaluation beyond journals into the public domain, where research has significant societal impact.

Mission

AuthentiSci’s mission is to improve the accuracy, clarity, and trustworthiness of science communication by enabling researchers to evaluate how scientific evidence is represented in public media. Misinterpretation, exaggeration, and loss of context can distort research findings and undermine public understanding. AuthentiSci enables verified experts to provide accessible, evidence-informed assessments of science-related media content, helping audiences better understand the strength, limitations, and context of scientific claims. By elevating high-quality reporting and identifying misleading or incomplete narratives, the platform supports informed engagement with research and strengthens trust in science and evidence-based communication.

Key Achievements

AuthentiSci has established key partnerships, including collaboration with the Max Planck Society via the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, an EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account award, and international recognition through the GCSP Prize for Innovation in Global Security. The organisation has strengthened its governance through UK charity registration and the appointment of Phill Jones as trustee. Major feature updates continue to be deployed to the platform, including ORCID-authenticated expert review workflows and AI-assisted systems to match relevant experts with media content at scale.
